
Mary began meditation in the Vipassana tradition in 1993 while living in Tennessee. Since then, she has attended over 15 silent meditation residential retreats at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts and at the Southern Dharma Retreat Center near Asheville, North Carolina. Presently, she serves on Southern Dharma's board of directors. Since moving to Washington in 2008, Mary's teachers have included Tara Brach, Hugh Byrne, and Jonathan Foust. She gives dharma talks and leads meditation classes at various locations in the D.C. area on behalf of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington, D.C. Mary has a daily practice that includes yoga, Vipassana, metta, and jhana meditation. She is also participating in the two-year Community Dharma Leadership IV program, sponsored by the Spirit Rock Meditation Center.
